Using a Flexible Fixed Layout

With a flexible fixed layout, the layout of the elements on a page can alter to fill the space available.

This allows flexibilty at lower resolutions while preventing the page appearing too stretched at higher resloutions

(For the example to work, the content must stretch past the first navigation column, otherwise the second column will become misaligned, to the left and beneath both the content and the first navigation column.)

For example, this page can be viewed as if at a 800x600 resolution.
